Ingason et al., Tunnel Fire Dynamics, DOI 10.1007/978-1-4939-2199-7_2 Abstract The effect of ventilation on fire development is one of the most important phenomena to understand in tunnel fire safety engineering. Ventilation controls the combustion process and is usually the phenomenon that engineers find most difficult to comprehend. Tunnel fires are considerably different from compartment fires in the way flashover occurs and develops; misconceptions about the effects of ventilation in tunnel fires are clarified in this chapter. The difference between fuel-controlled fires and ventilation-controlled fires is shown and explained. This chapter lays out the basics for understanding the role of ventilation interactions with other combustion phenomena and in fire development. This chapter is based partly on theory, but also includes experimental data obtained by the authors.

متن کاملA Computational Study of the Characteristics of Aircraft Post-crash Fires
Full-scale furnished cabin fires have been studied experimentally for the purpose of characterising the post-crash cabin fire environment by the US Federal Aviation Administration for many years. In this paper the Computational Fluid Dynamics fire field model SMARTFIRE is used to simulate one of these fires conducted in the C-133 test facility in order to provide further validation of the compu...

متن کاملThe effect of oxygen concentration on CO yields in fires
In addition to global ventilation effects on fires, vitiation of air is a ventilation related phenomenon that can also affect the generation of chemical species in a built environment. The paper is a contribution to the study on the subject. Experiments -were performed at lab-scale with the Fire Propagation Apparatus in order to study the effect of air vitiation on the CO yield. Results are als...
متن کاملControlled vs Spontaneous Ventilation for Bronchoscopy in Children with Tracheobronchial Foreign Body
Introduction Tracheobronchial foreign body aspiration is a common life-threatening condition in children. There are controversies in the management of this condition, including the type of ventilation during bronchoscopy. This study aims to compare anesthesia with controlled ventilation versus spontaneous ventilation in rigid bronchoscopy in children with foreign body aspiration. Materials...
